Alternative rock (also called alternative music, alt-rock or simply alternative) is a kind of rock music that was founded in 1980 and became widely popular in the 1990s. Alternative rock is composed of various subgenres that have emerged from the makers independent music since 1980, as grunge, Britpop, gothic rock and indie pop.
